Designer Interview

Q: CAMERICH (famous furniture brand in China)

A: Jiang Kewen (Design Director of Ningbo DESIGNWORKS Co., Ltd. During his 12 years’ experience in the industry, he has won many design awards in the industry.)

Q: How did the apartment owner get in touch with you? What are their requirements for the interior design?

A: They are a family of three and prefer modern minimalist design. They had already had a design proposal, but were not very satisfied with that. Later, they contacted us directly after reading the project cases we shared on our WeChat account.

At that time, the client mainly had two requirements: one is to meet the daily needs of a family of three and the occasional visits by their parents; and the second requirement is that the client prefers the minimalist style, which happens to be something we are good at.

Q: How did you satisfy these requirements?

A: As their parents would stay over occasionally, so we added a mobile division plate to separate the study from the living room and create a private space that can turn into a guest room for their parents when needed. That's the best solution we can think of (laughs). And for a minimalist apartment, we designed a lot of invisible cabinets to make the room feel simpler and calmer.

Q: Does minimalism mean less stuff? How do you interpret this style?

A：Of course not. The priority is to address the basic needs. This case is inspired by Taiwanese minimalist design, which combines Japanese (wood-based decoration) and Nordic (stone-based decoration) minimalist styles. The final result has the elements of all these styles and looks sleeker. 

Unlike the popular shiny decorations a few years ago, it's now more about the taste of humanity. In terms of materials, we have chosen materials with matte finishes, such as wood, soft-surface stone, fabrics, etc., which look better and feel more comfortable.

Q: In this case, why would you choose CAMERICH products?

Q: So, what is your design principle?

A: The priority is to meet the needs of living and then improve the quality of life from the inside out. The essence of minimalism is to return to the nature of life. This is also consistent with the concept of humanism design upheld by CAMERICH.
